Inspired by my morning walks on Mount Royal, a new series of landscape paintings. Une nouvelle série de paysages, inspirés par le Mont-Royal les matins.

I have just started teaching Watercolour I at the Visual Arts Centre on Victoria Ave. Having taken classes there myself, I know what a great organization this is, and I am very happy to be a part of it. Actuellement j'offre un cours d'aquarelle I au Centre d'arts visuels sur la rue Victoria. Je suis fière de faire partie d'un tel organisme.

Drawing/Paintings - dessins/peintures

I like the crispness of my pen. Drawing first gives me freedom in my painting. These were done on hot press watercolour paper.
J'aime l'effet du dessin, qui me donne une certaine liberté à peindre après. Ceux-ci ont été faits sur un papier aquarelle «hot press».

Some of my best work lately has been done during classes that I am teaching. Working alongside the people in the class seems to inspire me! J'ai fait ces oeuvres durant des cours que j'enseigne. Je me trouve inspirée par la créativité des participantes et participants!

DRAWN INTO LIFE : drawings/dessins

Since I have been teaching drawing, these strange, ambiguous forms have been emerging from my pen. Returning to drawing has been a real pleasure for me, inspired by seeing my students fall in love with the direct, intimate act of drawing.

Depuis que j'offre des cours de dessin, ces formes bizarres et ambigues émergent de mon stylo. C'est un plaisir de revenir au dessin, et je suis inspirée par mes étudiants, qui tombent en amour avec le dessin, si direct et si intime.

My cards / mes cartes

I make cards from cut-up paintings. It's fun and fascinating to find the little gems in paintings that didn't work as a whole, and then create a new object with them. Each one is different, of course.

Je fais des cartes des vieux oeuvres que je coupe. C'est fascinant de trouver des petits bijoux dans un oevre qui n'est pas réussit, et d'en faire un nouvel object. chacune est unique, bien sûr.

I love teaching art! I have been teaching drawing and watercolour at two nearby community centres. It is so much fun to share my love of drawing. Most of all I enjoy seeing people discover that they can draw!

Recently I have been experimenting with gouache and watercolour on Yupo paper. Yupo is a plastic paper, which allows for wiping and scratching, and which gives a wonderful translucent quality to the painting.
Dernièrement j'expérimente le papier en plastique qui s'appelle Yupo. Ce papier me permet d'effacer, et donne un effet lumineux aux oeuvres.

I have always loved paintings of interiors, which are often quiet, calm glimpses into a person's or a family's life. I become fascinated with small corners of my house, and I use these spaces and objects as a vehicle to play with light and shadow, angles and planes, and, of course, colour. The goal is not realism; it is to create a mood.

J'adore les intérieurs, qui sont souvent des images tranquilles d'une vie privée. J'ai dévelopé une fascination pour les petits racoins chez nous, dont je me sers pour jouer avec la couleur, les formes et la lumière. Le but n'est pas de faire une peinture réaliste, mais de créer un atmosphère.

TEN STROKES OF THE BRUSH/Dix coups de pinceaux, 2009

Ten Strokes of the Brush 2009 was the second exhibit of watercolours put on by a group of Montreal women. We have been meeting since 2007, to show and critique our work, share information, and encourage each other in our painting. The first exhibit, in Fall of 2008, (see Archives) was so much fun that we decided on the spot to do it again the next year. We are planning another exhibit for the Spring of 2011. En octobre 2009, mon groupe d'aquarellistes a monté une exposition entitulée Dix coups de pinceaux. Depuis 2007 nous nous rencontrons régulièrement pour but de partager nos oeuvres, de l'information, des critiques et de l'encouragement. Notre prochaine exposition est planifiée pour le printemps de 2011.

I love to experiment with gouache, both in conjunction with watercolour and on its own. The “Voyages” series is an obsession, purely with colour and composition. Using only three tubes of paint in any painting, I can mix a huge variety of colours. The paintings are voyages to new worlds of colour and mood.
J'adore la gouache, soit tout seul ou avec de l'aquarelle. La série "Voyages" représente une obsession avec la couleur et la composition. La plupart des oeuvres sont faits de mélanges de trois couleurs seulement. Les peintures sont des voyages dans un monde de couleur et d'ambience.

I love portraits, and have done many self-portraits and portraits of my family over the years, whether drawing or painting. With the death of my father in 1996, and the declining health of my mother, I sought to express some of my feelings through a series of family portraits in ink and watercolour. These drawings and paintings are done from life, from sketches and from family photographs.
Depuis des années je fait des portraits de mes proches et des auto-portraits. Lors du decès de mon père en 1996, et le déclin de la santé de ma mère, je me suis exprimée à travers une série de portraits de ma famille, en encre de chine et en aquarelle.

My bottle obsession is an extension of family tradition. My parents collected bottles, antique and modern, and always had them displayed in windows in their houses. I consider my paintings of bottles to be portraits, of the bottles themselves, which have lots of character, and also of old friends with whom I grew up. Still life allows me to explore relationships between the objects, and between the objects and the space around them. Plusieures des bouteilles dans mes peintures ont été acquis par mes parents, et ce sont de vieux amies. Ces natures mortes sont aussi des portraits de famille. travers ces compositions, je tends de pousser les frontières du réalisme et de la perspective.
